Glasgow Rangers are still searching for a new left back to bolster their roster in preparation for a second half of the season title push as the January transfer window draws to an end.

After yesterday’s triumph over Hibs, when left back Ridvan Yilmaz scored his debut goal to lead the club to a 3-0 victory,

the Gers now trail Celtic by just five points.

Many Turkish clubs are rumored to be interested in Yilmaz, including Galatasaray,

the league champions, who may make a late bid to sign the 22-year-old.

Similarly, a lot of uncertainty surrounds Borna Barisic’s future as an experienced defender.

Due to his struggles with injuries this season and his lack of a signed contract,

the Croatian international may be made available for free during the summer transfer window.

To provide continuity for his team in the upcoming years,

it is highly likely that Philippe Clement is looking to sign at least one long-term left back.

Earlier this week, TeamTalk listed FC Twente player Gijis Smal as a potential target.

The 26-year-old has extensive experience in Dutch football, having also played in the Europa League.

The defender’s contract expires in June, and it is generally reported that he just turned down an offer to stay at the Grolsch Veste stadium.

Other sites, like as The National, report that the Gers favor other targets over Smal.

These reports appear to be supported by recent social media statements from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist tweeted,

“Ajax are willing to loan out Anass Salah-Eddine in the final days of the January transfer window.

“The 2002-born Holland U21 left back in the list of several clubs

including Rangers and Torino but race open, nothing agreed so far.”

Salah-Eddine is a product of the illustrious Ajax system,

having made 32 appearances in the second division of Dutch football for the club’s B squad

before moving up to professional football in 2020.

He has yet to establish himself as a first-team regular at Ajax, having made only eight league games,

but he had a successful loan spell at FC Twente last season.

His performances at the youth level have earned him regular starts for all of the Netherlands’ youth teams, ranging from U15 to U21.
