Rangers held transfer talks in Spain as replacement for Ibrox ace mooted

Rangers held transfer talks in Spain as Ridvan Yilmaz replacement mooted at Ibrox

Derek Ferguson, a former Ibrox star,

will be our exclusive Rangers columnist,

providing weekly insights on the most important topics in Govan.

Derek Ferguson understands Ridman Yilmaz’s desire to leave Rangers and believes he might be sold to create finances to acquire Liverpool full-back Owen Beck.

Yilmaz has been a major topic of conversation during the January transfer window,

and there are reports that he could leave Ibrox to improve his chances of reaching Turkey’s Euro 2024 squad.

On 22 January, Turkish writer Ali Naci

Kucuk reported that Galatasaray had offered an initial loan fee of £428,000 and a buy option of £2.5 million to sign Yilmaz,

who started and scored in Wednesday night’s triumph over Hibernian at Easter Road.

Rangers have been linked with numerous left-backs throughout the transfer window,

including Reds jewel Beck, 20,

who was recalled from a loan at Dundee but had an offer turned down (Daily Mail, January 4).

Ferguson, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News,

believes it would be ideal if Yilmaz left and Beck took his place.

“I mean obviously he’s (Yilmaz) got aspirations,

he wants to be playing in the Euros and to do that you’ve got to be playing first-team football,

” he was quoted as saying.

“And the one thing I think at Rangers is that under Philippe Clement,

you are not guaranteed first-team football; you must perform.

“During the winter break, they went to La Manga,

and there were definitely discussions;

he’s devoted to the club, as he should be since he’s paid well,

which is why you’re there as a football player.

“But again, it’s a certain situation; if it’s perfect for Yilmaz to get away,

ensure that he’ll be playing week in and week out to get into that Turkish squad,

then we”There’s a lot of uncertainty this time of year;

he may not be my cup of tea. Yilmaz,

I believe it took him far too long to settle,

that he suffers physically at times,

and that he may be a target when teams play the Rangers because to his lack of height and aerial power.
