Rangers could pay almost £6m to sign an ‘absolutely fantastic’ talent

Rangers could reportedly stump up near £6 million for Mohamed Diomande and the FC Nordsjaelland ace will have a sell-on clause included in his Ibrox contract.

Amid reports that an announcement is now ‘imminent’

– Rangers are set to complete the signing of a 22-year-old midfielder who has

impressed both Philippe Clement and recruitment chief Nils Koppen

– more details about the deal are emerging,

with Mohamed Diomande expected to become the club’s first permanent signing of 2024.

According to multiple publications, Rangers will pay between £4 and £4.5 million for Diomande.

Tispbladet, a Danish news site, believes the total fee will be closer to £6 million.

£5.7 million, to be precise.

Tipsbladet also reports that Nordsjaelland will insist on a sell-

on provision in Diomande’s contract.

As a result, if the Ivory Coast under-21 international shines in Scotland and earns a mega-money move to a more wealthy club later on,

as Nathan Patterson or Calvin Bassey did, Nordsjaelland will benefit significantly.

Nordsjaelland are likely to lose a player who has been rated one of the division’s best midfielders by head coach Johan Thorup.

He graduated from the same ‘Right to Dream’ academy that refined the talents of West Ham’s Mohamed Kudus before making his name in Denmark.

As Tipsbladet points out, FCN would rather transfer Diomande to Rangers now than risk losing him to their American

-based sibling club San Diego FC in 2025, possibly for a far smaller amount.

“Instead of talking about his scoring statistics,

why don’t we look at the statistics about how many defensive tackles he makes?,”

Thorup said, arguing that Diomande’s ball-winning ability compensates for his lack of goals,

even though he has five assists this season.

“Then it would be transformed into a positive story.

“Listen, Mohammed is one of Denmark’s best midfielders.”

He has been absolutely wonderful for us this season,

and I hope that most people recognize that.”

Diomande joins Wolves’ loanee Fabio Silva at Ibrox.

Rangers could yet attempt to sign a forward to replace ‘long-term’ absentee Ibrahima Sima. A left-back may also be necessary if Ridvan Yilmaz joins Galatasaray.
