Jake Hastie was a winger who was brimming with anticipation for what lay ahead when he came through the doors at Ibrox.

However, he acknowledges that the confidence he had after his breakthrough season at Motherwell gradually wore off once he entered

the dressing room and began working with then-teammates Ryan Kent and Jo Aribo. This was because he realized how difficult it

would be to establish himself as a regular in Steven Gerrard’s talented squad.

Hastie, 20, was signed by Gerrard to a lucrative four-year contract at the time, and the team welcomed

the arrival of “a talented young player.”

And it’s hard to argue with that description after watching Hastie play for Motherwell in the second half of the 2018–19 season. During

the campaign, he received a nomination for PFA Young Player of the Year, and as fate would have it,

Kent blocked his path and won the prize.

He thought that his career would advance with the move to Ibrox, but in reality, it was stunted as he was

unable to have an influence on the first team.

He acknowledges that he became aware of the difficulty of his assignment early on because two of the heroes that helped Rangers

advance to the Europa League Final in 2022 and win the Premiership, which prevented rivals Celtic from

winning ten games in a row, never gave him a chance.

However, he states that he has no regrets about joining Rangers and that he only concentrates on the positives, hoping to learn a few

things from their style of play for his upcoming debut at Hamilton Accies. He signed a contract with the League One team last week.

Hastie reminisced in an exclusive interview with Lanarkshire Live Sport, saying,

“I always knew that going in there when I signed. Rangers is a big club.”

However, I was young (20) and facing up against players like Ryan Kent and Jo Aribo, so it was a tough ask for me.

while now look at where they are: Ryan is at Fenerbache on a huge salary, while Jo is at Southampton.
