Due to a contract provision, the 27-year-old forward could have left the team following their relegation from the Premier League the previous season.

Even though Morelos’ contract had a break provision that would have allowed him to depart following his relegation, the Colombian

decided to stick with the team.

The former Ibrox striker agreed to a new contract at Santos under the new salary policy, joining teammates Tomas Rincon, Joao

Paulo, and Julio Furch in doing so.

This indicates that Morelos consented to cap his pay from his prior contract, which was reportedly worth £40,000 per week, in

exchange for the team winning the championship for the first time in its existence.

As part of his contract, Morelos will stay with the team through the 2024 campaign, with the goal of leading them to promotion

following a disastrous campaign in the previous one.

A club statement on Twitter (previously known as X) said: “EL BÚFALO IS STILL GOING!

“Following the example of Tomás Rincón, João Paulo, and Julio Furch, striker Alfredo Morelos also adapted to the salary policy that

has been implemented by the new management and will remain at Santos Futebol Clube in 2024.”A Scottish national cup champion,

Morelos amassed 125 goals and sent out 32 assists in 269 games while playing for Rangers, an idol in Scotland.

“Furthermore, the athlete is the third highest scorer in the history of the Europa League, with 32 goals.”
