111-goal ex-Rangers star brands 29-year-old club’s “best player” under Clement

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller says that John Lundstram has been the club’s “best player” under Philippe Clement.

The ex-Ibrox striker was speaking following Rangers’ easy 3-0 success against the Easter Road side, another of Miller’s former clubs.

Kenny Miller was initially asked about Ridvan Yilmaz’s development in previous Rangers games when discussing the progress achieved under Philippe Clement.

However, the 111-goal former Rangers forward couldn’t resist applauding John Lundstram, who continues to impress under the Belgian management.

Kenny Miller spoke after John Lundstram and Ridvan Yilmaz combined to open the scoring in Rangers’ triumph over Hibs at Easter Road.

Lundstram deftly dinked the ball over the Hibs defence, and the onrushing Yilmaz capped the move by blasting it past David Marshall.

Miller believes that the improved results are due in large part to Philippe Clement’s development,

which has instilled increased confidence in his team.

“It just takes some confidence, and Philippe Clement has demonstrated that,” Miller told BBC Sportsound.

“He has encouraged every single one of these athletes.

“He’s getting more out of them, which is the most important thing for me since he came in.

Essentially, it is the same group of players.

“(John Lundstram has) been the greatest player for Rangers since Philippe Clement arrived.

There is absolutely no doubt about that.

“He’s basically uplifted them, gotten more out of them,

and put them in a new mindset so that even when they’re not playing well, they get the job done and win games.

“Yilmaz fits into that category. He’s given him some belief, confidence in his ability to start football games,

and his performances have improved.

“Again, that was a good performance from Yilmaz tonight.”

Philippe Clement seeks new Rangers contract.

The comments about John Lundstram come as there is much speculation over the midfielder’s future at Ibrox,

as his contract expires this summer.

Philippe Clement, one of the Gers’ most significant players, was asked about the situation earlier this week.

Claiming that it is a financial issue that both the club and John Lundstram must resolve,

there has been speculation in the past that the ex-Sheffield United midfielder has not justified his high salary at Govan.

However, given his comeback to form, Philippe Clement is definitely hoping for a contract with John Lundstram,

who is regarded as a crucial member of his Rangers team.

The midfielder has also stated that he wants to stay, and as Kenny Miller’s praise shows,

he is well on his way to a lucrative contract extension.
