The Yankees are anticipated to aim for a bullpen reunion in free agency.

With the Yankees looking to add bullpen depth, the team is still searching

for options on the free-agent market.

Jack Curry was on YES Hot Stove to discuss the team’s plans in the bullpen,

and he dropped some nuggets that could indicate that a reunion is likely in free agency.

The Yankees are in contact with both Wandy Peralta and Keynan Middleton,

with the team more likely to end up with one of the two than end up with a reliever

like Hector Neris, who the team has been linked to by various reporters.

Although he acknowledged that a single text or phone call might always make a

difference, he predicted that the Hector Neris would be going somewhere else in

the winter and that one of the two previously stated reunion contenders may be

wearing the pinstripes once more in 2024.

The Yankees took full advantage of Keynan Middleton‘s good pitch mix by having

him utilize more sliders against right-handed batters. With a 1.88 ERA and a good

three-pitch mix, the 30-year-old induced high groundball rates (71%) and struck out

30.4% of batters he faced in 14.1 innings pitched. This past year, all three of his

pitches had a Whiff Rate above 30%, and his movement profile’s depth lets him

project well into the future.

The Yankees believed Middleton’s slider was underappreciated,

particularly against right-handed hitters, and that his 3.38 ERA over 50.2 innings

was mostly disregarded. He isn’t anticipated to ask for an absurdly big contract,

and the Yankees might see him more favorably because of his affordability.
