Lawrence Shankland returned to duty for Hearts after missing

the Scottish Cup and sparking speculation of a move to Rangers.

The 28-year-old Scotland international striker has been linked with a move to Ibrox this winter,

but there has been little solid discussion thus far.

Lawrence Shankland, who missed the weekend’s 2-1 win over Spartans,

recovered from a mystery sickness to face Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

And, once again, the Rangers-linked striker was at the center of the action,

missing a penalty as the Jambos rallied from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Lawrence Shankland returns to Hearts.

Dundee were 2-0 up at halftime thanks to goals from Jordan McGhee and Lyall Cameron,

giving them hopes of a famous triumph in Edinburgh.

However, despite passing up numerous fine opportunities in the first half,

Hearts mounted a valiant second-half comeback.

Calem Nieuwenhof drew one back just over 10 minutes after the restart,

before Rangers-related Lawrence Shankland missed a chance to equalise after being pulled down in the box.

It’s the striker’s third missed penalty in less than a month,

forcing Dundee keeper Trevor Carson to make a fine save.

Shankland’s blushes, however, were spared by a late goal from Dexter Lembikisa and Yutaro Oda,

who saved three points for the Midlothian team.

Hearts are now eight points clear of Kilmarnock in third place in the Scottish Premiership,

and they remain on track for a European finish this season.

Rangers manager fails to rule out striker transfer.

The return of Lawrence Shankland will do little to soothe the speculation surrounding Rangers,

as the Ibrox club continues to look for transfer reinforcements.

Rangers have already added Wolves loanee Fabio Silva to their squad in January,

with midfielder Mohamed Diomande expected to join soon.

Philippe Clement was asked about a potential January transfer for

another striker before of the Gers’ game against Hibs,

and the Belgian manager clearly indicated that the club is open to a deal.

“I’m not speaking about positions or what we want,” Clement stated. “There are also strikers inside the building.

“Fabio (Silva) has already shown good results, and Cyriel (Dessers) is also doing well based on his current data.

“So we will see what targets we will take in the transfer market and what the possibilities are.”

Lawrence Shankland has 18 goals for Hearts this season and has been linked with Rangers throughout his career.

Hearts manager Steven Naismith has spoken about the situation over the weekend,

providing the striker guidance on his own move to Rangers in 2007.
