Report: Dallas Cowboys Defensive Coordinator, Dan Quinn, Gets Further Head Coaching Buzz After 2 More In-Person Interviews Scheduled For This Week
Dan Quinn has been one of the top head coaching prospects in football for the past two years.
And with good reason.
Dan Quinn: A Man in High Demand.
Quinn has not only helped the Dallas Cowboys produce back-to-back 12-win seasons ,
even if it has not translated into postseason success ,
but he has also helped America’s Teams’ defense become one of the league’s hardest and best,
thanks to studs Micah Parsons, DaRon Bland, and Trevon Diggs.
The Dallas defense has improved year after year under the former Atlanta Falcons head coach,
rising from 19th to 12th to 5th in total defense between 2021 and 2023.
After electing to remain with the Dallas Cowboys for the 2023 season,
it appears like Quinn’s time may finally have come.
Where Could Dan Quinn Land?
Except for the New England Patriots (who used a contract clause to hire former linebackers coach Jerod Mayo),
the Las Vegas Raiders (who promoted interim HC Antonio Pierce to a permanent role),
and the Atlanta Falcons, who are currently pursuing a slew of high-profile candidates,
almost every team has courted Quinn at some point during the head coaching interview process.
Quinn, who had a second interview arranged with the Tennessee Titans before they signed former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan,
will now have in-person, later round interviews with both the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders, according to Jordan Schultz.
Which NFL franchise is the best fit for Quinn?
At this time, all signs point to Jim Harbaugh as the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers,
while the Carolina Panthers appear organizationally dysfunctional following
reports of involvement by owner David Tepper in football operations.
This leaves the aforementioned Seahawks and Commanders.
The Seahawks make sense since they have a defensive culture from Pete Carroll, the recently retired head coach.
Not to mention that Quinn served as Carroll’s defensive coordinator during
the Legion of Boom in 2013-14 before being named Atlanta’s first head coach in 2015.
Washington, on the other side, has a team that is completely rebuilt at all stages of play.
From dealing their top two pass rushers in the middle of the season to rebuilding their front office executive staff,
it’s evident that new owner Josh Harris wants to get rid of Dan Snyder and start over with a new cast.
Despite the flurry of strong head coaching candidates on the market this year,
it appears that Quinn will still be able to land a job that will define him as a great head coach or defensive coordinator.
