Ferguson admits it is irritating that Rangers have not recruited more firepower during the January transfer window,

but believes Fabio Silva “absolutely” has to make his first start against Hibernian on Wednesday (January 24).

The 21-year-old Portuguese forward joined Ibrox on loan from Wolves until the end of the season earlier this month and made his Scottish Cup debut off the bench against Dumbarton on Saturday (20 January).

However, Philippe Clement is said to want a more out-and-out striker added to his team before the transfer window closes to give competition for Cyriel Dessers, as both Danilo and Kemar Roofe are injured.

Silva is typically of a floating attacker, but former Rangers player Ferguson believes he will start as central striker for the first time at Easter Road in place of new faces.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he stated: “Absolutely, he has to (start).

“This is where the frustration comes in;

I believe at least one other front-line member is expected to enter the equation.

“Against Copenhagen the other night, Silva started while Dessers sat on the bench.

Dessers, in my opinion, might come off the bench and make an impact; he hasn’t showed much this season.

“I don’t think it’s Silva’s finest position; as you can see, he like to come short,

connect play, and drift into different areas, but he’s been asked to play a different role.

“At the moment, as it stands, with no other signings coming in I expect him to play and expect him to lead the line.”
