Chris Jack shares brand new twist in Rangers transfer pursuit of Gijs Smal at Ibrox
Gijs Smal, a left back for FC Twente,
is not someone Rangers are interested in signing this month, according to Chris Jack.
On January 23rd,
the journalist for Rangers Review revealed on his personal Twitter account that the Light Blues have no interest in signing the defender in a late January trade.
The Light Blues are interested in signing the 26-year-old left-back,
whose contract with the Eredivisie club expires at the end of the current campaign,
according to a report from the Dutch publication Voetbal International on Tuesday,
January 23.
But in a shocking turn of events at Ibrox,
Jack quickly posted,
“Rangers have no interest in FC Twente left-back Gijs Smal,”
utterly dispelling such rumors.
Snappy
Range
rs are already short on options at left-back with only Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz at the Belgian’s disposal currently and it seems as though one,
if not both,
of the defenders could be nearing the Ibrox exit door.
It’s hardly surprising that the Gers have been connected to so many names for the position this month,
especially considering the futures of both players,
and Smal has surfaced as one more option to consider.
With 44 games played last season,
Smal scored two goals and provided ten assists,
demonstrating his versatility as a left back for FC Twente.
Such form is sure to keep several clubs in Europe on alert including a club desperate for an upgrade and quality at left-back but Jack has quickly destroyed any rumours flying around surrounding the Gers’ apparent interest.
Yilmaz has been mentioned as perhaps moving this month,
but there are conflicting stories about his whereabouts, so it’s impossible to say for sure.
It remains to be seen whether Rangers will bolster the position prior to the transfer deadline,
but one thing is certain:
manager Philippe Clement will want advancements at the position very soon.
