£20m man reportedly wanted Rangers move but now re-joins former club instead
Emmanuel Dennis, a Premier League misfit who was reportedly eager on a move to Rangers, has officially rejoined his former side Watford from Nottingham Forest.
Reports from Belgium seemed to indicate at the beginning of the month that Philippe Clement and a player who flourished under his
tutelage at Club Brugge would actually get back together.
Emmanuel Dennis had fallen out of favour at Nottingham Forest, farmed out on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer. Reporter
Sacha Tavolieri even went as far as to suggest that, while it appeared to be a case of Dennis being offered to Rangers rather than
Rangers offering themselves to Dennis, the Nigeria international would have relished the chance
to work alongside Clement again at Ibrox.
Rangers ignore Emmanuel Dennis chance
Tavolieri said on X, “Emmanuel Dennis has been proposed to the club.” However, as of right present, no formal contact has been made.
“However, I can vouch for the player’s interest in the Rangers.”
Not long later, though, the connection became chilly.
Whether Rangers rue not grabbing such an opportunity – Abdallah Sima ruled out with a ‘long-term’ injury – remains to be seen,
Dennis reuniting not with his former boss but with his former club instead.
Back to where it began in England
Watford confirmed via their official website on Wednesday lunchtime that Dennis will once again by plying his trade in yellow and
black, joining on loan from Nottingham Forest until the summer. And if the silky, left-sided forward can rediscover the form of his
first spell at Vicarage Road – he scored 10 goals and set up six more in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign – a late charge for the
Championship play-offs cannot be ruled out for Valerien Ismael’s side.
Rangers do appear to be closing in on a deal for Mohamed Diomande, however. The Nordsjaelland midfielder will reportedly arrive at
Ibrox for around £4.5 million. Plenty of left-backs continue to be linked as well, though the chance of one arriving looks slim as long
as Ridvan Yilmaz sticks around.
