Leander Dendoncker, a midfielder for Aston Villa, has reportedly accepted an offer from Napoli, and is now close to joining the Italian team,

according to HITC Football.

Leander Dendoncker, a Belgian midfielder, signed a £13 million contract to play for Villa Park in the summer of 2022, but since then, things have not

gone as planned for the player.

Due to his lack of playing time for Unai Emery’s team this season, a January departure from the club is likely, as Napoli has accepted their offer for the

Belgian.

Burnley and Sheffield United of the Premier League were interested in the Belgian midfielder, and he turned down a chance to sign a loan with the

Italian powerhouse.

Details of deal

HITC Football is also aware that Napoli is not required to include the option to make the loan agreement permanent. It will probably depend on how

he goes in Serie A; if he does well, the Italian powerhouses will probably decide to extend the contract.

At Nottingham Forest, Napoli had already expressed interest in Dendoncker’s countryman Oriel Mangala; however, it is now unclear if they want both

Belgians.

Although Mangala has shown promise since joining Forest for £12 million from VFB Stuttgart last summer, it appears that Napoli will choose

Dendoncker.

Dendoncker’s struggles

During Boubacar Kamara’s suspension, the 28-year-old started the 3-2 loss at Manchester United in the Premier League this season.

Ironically, he scored his first and only goal for the Midlands club in that loss to the Red Devils, and now a move out of Villa Park is imminent.

The midfielder, who was formerly with Wolves and Anderlecht, showed promise while he was in the Black Country but has failed to be consistent at

Villa Park because of his erratic playing time. From the time he transferred from Wolves to Villa during the summer transfer window in 2022,

he has made 36 appearances overall. Although the cost of the option to buy Dendoncker remains unknown, his stay at Villa Park is drawing to a close.
