With Philippe Clement rarely able to name the same side twice in a row, Rangers appear to be able to recover a few players who are

healthy and available for games but lose others due to injuries.

When answering concerns about his team and trying to get more physically fit players to Ibrox,

the manager of the Gers has occasionally come across as a dissatisfied person.

One such player appears to be Mohamed Diomande as the Rangers board looks to give

Philippe Clement the tools to challenge on all

fronts, however, the arrival of the Ivorian could spell the end for one former key player.

Rangers begin upgrades under Philippe Clement

By removing injury prone players from the squad, there is more than one benefit.

Wages can be better put to use.

A place in the squad can be freed up for players who are available more often.

Less stress is placed on a smaller group of players to always be available and play more minutes.

We’ve seen it before, it becomes a vicious circle when the same players have to play every week.

They not only become less acute, but they also unconsciously understand that their physical appearance has little bearing on their selection.

Prior to Christmas, Clement expressed his dissatisfaction at having to deal with players who kept breaking down.

“I need to talk about it even though I’m a little tired of it. I dunno, we’ll see the next day, and then it’s just another game.

We assess the players’ fitness and the state of the situation on a daily basis.

“It’s difficult to plan in advance so I’m living from day to day.”

What this could mean is that Rangers signing someone with Mohamed Diomande’s profile and for a reported £4.5m could spell the end of Ryan Jack at the club.

Jack might be home grown, but this quality is almost irrelevant if he is missing for most of the season.

It just doesn’t add sense to give the Scotland international another contract after seven years, so some academy player may be

promoted to take up the void that he might leave behind.

Mohamed Diomande’s impending signing by Rangers is the most recent evidence that he might not be in this parish for long.
