Warriors’ Draymond Green pays tribute to ‘brilliant’ Dejan Milojevic
A week after the sudden and tragic passing of Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojevic,
forward Draymond Green is paying tribute to the latest coach.
The star player for the Warriors described Milojevic as “brilliant,” “joyful,” and possessing a unique charisma.
Following Milojevic’s medical emergency in Utah earlier this month, the Utah Jazz vs. Warriors game was
postponed. He was at the restaurant with several Warriors players and coaches at the time. The following game
between Golden State and the Dallas Mavericks was also canceled.
For fifteen years, Milojevic traveled abroad to play, making appearances in Serbia, Spain, Montenegro, and Turkey.
Following the conclusion of his playing career, he was hired as Mega Basket’s head coach, where he went on to win
173 games between 2012 and 2020. He had a close relationship with Nikola Jokic, the standout player for the Denver
Nuggets, having coached him for a few years at Mega Basket. He also worked with Ivica Zubac of the Los Angeles
Clippers for a while, thus he has positive relationships with several of the league’s foreign players.
It’s possible that Milojevic and Green had a close working connection because the latter was an expert at dealing with
large men.
“Always smart, super smart,” remarked Green. Astute as anything. Happy, merely offering the finest. Much energy,
almost. Though he wouldn’t be in the way, you would sense his presence. And he would approach you, give you a
hug, shake your hand, and ask, “What’s up, brother?” Laugh. That’s all you have, sort of. You combine all of it with
the sharpest basketball intellect. Simply a unique presence. We lost a wonderful, amazing person—a brilliant man.
