Two-way managerial fight for Celtic hero Scott Brown emerges, huge decision awaits
On Monday, rumors surfaced suggesting that Celtics great Scott Brown may be getting closer to taking over as manager.
After being fired by Fleetwood Town at the beginning of the current season, Broony is currently unemployed. Following his appointment in May
2022, he made FA Cup history with the team in his first season there.
Fleetwood had never reached the fourth round of the famous competition until Brown achieved the feat after beating English Championship outfit
Queens Park Rangers.
He would then impressively topple Sheffield Wednesday in the next round before Burnley proved too much of a challenge thereafter.
Brown secured a comfortable 13th-placed finish for Fleetwood in English League One and after signing a contract extension in the summer, things
were looking up.
But an unfortunate start to the 2023/24 season led to Celtic legend Brown’s sacking and since then, he has dipped his toes into the TV punditry
world among other things.
Clearly though, getting back in the dugout is his ultimate aim and it appears managerless Ayr United are interested in our legendary former
captain’s services.
However, according to the Daily Record, the Scottish Championship side now face competition from England to land Brown.
The aforementioned outlet states Scott Brown held talks with Ayr yesterday as the club – who sit second from bottom in Scotland’s second tier –
aim to fill their vacant position.
But could Brown be lured back to England? Reportedly, Forest Green Rovers have made an eleventh hour approach to the 38-year-old to
potentially replace Troy Deeney.
Deeney was sacked after just six games in charge of the struggling English League Two outfit who are also in a relegation battle this season.
The Daily Record say Brown could now head south for talks with Forest Green within the next 24 hours as a huge decision over his managerial
future looms.
