Robby McCrorie asked to leave Rangers in the summer in search of first-team football, and now the club has placed a £1 million price tag on him, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper revealed in print [23 January, page 68] that McCrorie had discussed his wish to play football for the first team with then-manager Michael Beale, but no transfer happened.
There has also been no movement during the January transfer window, despite Jack Butland being scheduled to return for the Scottish Premiership match against Hibernian.

For his own benefit, let him go.

Although every club should always have a capable backup goalie, McCrorie has only played in one game this season—the cup victory against Dumbarton—while Butland has dominated the position since coming to Ibrox in the summer.

It could thus be better for everyone if he is given permission to depart. He should be allowed to play regular football someplace; it remains to be seen if that entails lowering the price tag in an effort to entice buyers.

Since it is generally acknowledged that the goalkeeper has the ability to play international football, the club should permit McCrorie to leave Ibrox rather than remain on the sidelines watching Butland play. McCrorie will have his sights set on the upcoming European Championships, but he has no chance of making the Scotland squad unless he is the first-choice somewhere.
