Jaylen Brown Talks About Defensive Mindset After Making Luka Doncic Take 30 Shots for 33 Points

With a 119-110 victory over the Mavericks on Monday night in Dallas,

the Boston Celtics increased their NBA-leading record to 34-10.

In a 116-107 victory over the Houston Rockets the previous evening,

Jaylen Brown demonstrated his development as a facilitator

and his ease in making the easy play rather than pressuring the situation.

While Boston finished their two-game series sweep in Texas,

the two-time All-Star showed off yet another facet of his development.

The Marietta, Georgia native began the 2023–24 season hoping to earn a position on an All-Defensive team

after inking the richest contract extension in NBA history this summer.

His ability to play at his peak on a regular basis is a major factor

in why he’s having the finest season of his career and earning a position on the All-NBA Second Team.

As stated by NBC Sports Brown, Chris Forsberg of Boston,

and the other 168 players who challenge at least ten shots each game

led the league in defensive field goal % going into Monday’s game.

The 27-year-old should take the majority of the credit for the reason

that the four-time All-NBA pick needed to make 30 shots in order to score 33 points against Dallas,

as he guarded Luka Doncic for the most of the game.

The seven-year veteran stated after the victory that he didn’t request the assignment but added,

“I think I’m one of the league’s top defenders,

if not the greatest defender in the league,

so I felt like I should be given the challenge.

So, every night, I guard the top players because my body is in a different shape.

“Doncic defended Brown at the other end of the court for the majority of the evening,

but the outcomes were very different.

The six-foot-six wing scored 34 points, which was second in the game only to Jayson Tatum’s 39. He also gave out four assists and sent the Mavericks’ franchise face sliding across the floor before making a jump jumper in the second quarter. On Monday, Tatum and Brown scored at least thirty points for the 29th time in the current campaign. By then, the Celtics will have improved to 27-2.
