Following their Cup matches last weekend, Hearts and Hibernian return to Premiership action this week.

Both Edinburgh clubs have advanced to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup after victories over Spartans and Forfar,

but must now focus on securing their league positions ahead of the split.

The Jambos will face Dundee in an attempt to maintain their current form, which has them third in the league,

five points ahead of St Mirren with a game in hand,

while Hibs will host Rangers at Easter Road tomorrow (Wednesday, January 24) in an effort to remain in the top six.

As the January transfer season approaches its last week,

here’s the most recent news from Hibs and Hearts’ Premiership opponents.

Celtic star gets a price tag

Celtic will expect at least £20 million for midfielder Matt O’Riley in the summer season,

and the 23-year-old is unlikely to leave the Scottish Premiership leaders before the January transfer window closes (Football Insider).

This latest revelation comes despite heavy speculation of interest from La Liga leaders Girona and Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Premier League teams have also kept an eye on his status.

However, Brendan Rodgers has stated that the club has “no intention of selling” him this month,

as his contract is now fixed until May 2027.

The  Danish international has managed ten goals and ten assists in 28 games

so far this season and Rodgers will be desperate to keep him while the Hoops

look to seal their third consecutive Scottish Premiership title.

Hoops suffer transfer setback.

Celtic’s hopes of signing Liverpool left-back Owen Beck in this transfer window

have been dashed after the 21-year-old was used as a substitute in their 4-0 win over Bournemouth,

meaning that only Dundee, with whom he impressed on loan earlier this season,

and his parent club can use him for the remainder of the 2023-24 season (The Scotsman).

The defender has had numerous great performances at Dens Park this season,

and the Hoops have been eyeing him as a potential transfer for several weeks.

Rodgers had been looking for a new left-back to compete with Greg Taylor,

but Beck has now played for two teams this season,

and the 21-year-old is  no longer an option.

FIFA rules state that only Dundee and the Premier League current leaders can

use him for the rest of the 2023/24 season.

Rangers will get a lift from the Premier League

Abdallah Sima’s agent has intimated that the 22-year-old on-loan Brighton attacker would

stay with Rangers since he enjoys his time at the Premiership club (The Herald).

The striker, who suffered a setback this week after being sent home from AFCON with a thigh injury,

has 10 goals this season and is the club’s equal leading scorer. Bathie Toure,

his France-based agent, recently stated in an interview in Senegal how much the Senegalese star enjoys his time at Ibrox.

He stated, “Abdallah Sima is good at Rangers and wants to continue there.

He like the club’s atmosphere and hopes to continue his development as a player.

Abdallah is currently the most promising young Senegalese player.

He is a dedicated worker who has been well looked after throughout his career.

“At the moment, he is pleased because he plays every week for Rangers.

He feels at ease there, and he definitely wants to stay. We’ll see what occurs at the end of this loan.”
