Bucks to Replace Head Coach with NBA Champion?
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN’s NBA Insiders initially reported that head coach Adrian Griffin of the Milwaukee
Bucks had been sacked.
A hectic Tuesday is ahead for the NBA with this news. This morning, the Terry Rozier trade
was revealed, and tonight’s schedule consists of five games. While the franchise looks for
a long-term replacement,
assistant coach Joe Prunty of the Bucks will assume the role of interim head coach.
Doc Rivers is the obvious favorite for the position and is described as a “serious candidate.”
Just seven months after hiring Griffin in early June, the Bucks made the decision
to remove him from his head
coaching position. This is a little surprising considering the Bucks’ 30-13 record.
Only the Boston Celtics have a better record in the NBA than that one.
Milwaukee is now 3.5 games behind the top-seeded Celtics in the East.
“There have been steady rumblings for weeks in NBA circles that several NBA veterans,
including Giannis, had lost faith in Griffin,” Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix disclosed.
What seemed like a wise hire in the spring of last year just didn’t work out.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is a huge draw for Milwaukee, and it’s generally the
beginning of the end when the
franchise player starts to lose faith in his head coach.
Following the Bucks’ first-round exit last spring, Griffin was brought in to take
Mike Budenholzer’s place as head
coach. As the top seed in the East going into the 2023 playoffs, Milwaukee was
defeated in five games by the eighth-
seeded Miami Heat.
