Alisha Lehmann the coach! Aston Villa star all smiles as she manages men’s team in unlikely partnership with World Cup winner Lukas Podolski
Alisha Lehmann, of Aston Villa, has entered the world of coaching, leading her Streets United team to compete in the inaugural Baller League.
What happened?
Lehmann, a Swiss international, was said to be a part of the new project that World Cup champions Lukas Podolski and Mats
Hummels were assembling back in December. In the middle of a WSL campaign, she will not be hitting the field; instead, she will
assume a managerial position.
The Bigger Picture
Lehmann, who has resumed her romance with another Villa player Douglas Luiz, will be partnered with former Arsenal forward
Podolski at Streets United, one of the 12 sides competing in the competition.
After an exciting draft, she traveled to Germany for the competition and was beaming when she met her new squad. In fact, they
defeated Hollywood United 3-2 to open the campaign on a winning note.
Did You Know?
Each squad in the six-a-side Baller League consists of 11 players, nine of whom were chosen on draft day and two of whom are
available as wildcards for any given match. There will be 11 total match days, with each match consisting of two 15-minute halves. On
April 6, the Final Four will compete for the ultimate prize.
Next?
Former players and famous visitors play a major role in the Baller League, which is akin to the Kings League that Barcelona icon
Gerard Pique established in Spain. It’s unclear how many trips to Germany Lehmann will be able to make because her attention is
firmly fixed on work-related issues in England.
