Head coach Mike McCarthy will stay with the Dallas Cowboys for at least one more season. It’s a difficult scenario because, despite

their recent success in the regular season, the Cowboys never seem to be able to get off their bad postseason performance.

We all have our own opinions about McCarthy. We know he has a Lombardi Trophy sitting somewhere in his den. Nobody can ever

take that away from him. But Cowboys fans don’t care about that. It’s that second trophy we are interested in as he’s brought his

championship pedigree to Dallas. But when will that happen? McCarthy’s latest playoff debacle has us wondering if it’s ever truly

coming. And when you start to look at what he’s done in the playoffs since his Super Bowl win, it isn’t all that great. Today, we’ll

examine a few factors that could paint an unflattering picture for the Cowboys head coach.

PAST SUCCESS DOESN’T EQUAL FUTURE SUCCESS

It’s wonderful to win a Super Bowl. As soon as a head coach pulls off this achievement, they become instantly legendary. And even

when the initial glimmer fades, a head coach is still in high demand.

This is McCarthy’s situation. All Jerry Jones needed to make him his guy was for his career in Green Bay to culminate in a Super Bowl

triumph in AT&T Stadium back in 2010. However, as previous experiences have shown, a team’s success does not guarantee that another will follow.

Before he retired, Bill Parcells led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl victories. Returning to the NFL after a two-year break,

Parcells tried his luck with three different teams: the New England Patriots (Super Bowl), the New York Jets (AFC Championship),

and even the Cowboys (Wild Card). Though he guided all three of those teams to the postseason,

he would never again be the Super Bowl victor.

It has been tried by other coaches as well. After coaching the Chicago Bears to victory in the 1985 Super Bowl, Mike Dikta went on to

coach the New Orleans Saints to three consecutive losing seasons. After a 3-13 season with that dumpster fire of a Washington team,

Mike Shanahan, Kyle’s father, was dismissed by Dan Snyder after winning two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos. Jimmy Johnson

even played for the Miami Dolphins for four seasons, leading them to three postseason appearances,

but he was never able to duplicate his incredible success in Dallas.
