The New York Giants have invested two of their top-seven overall draft selections over the last five NFL Drafts on offensive tackles in order to strengthen their offensive line going forward. The Giants drafted Evan Neal seventh overall in 2022 after selecting Andrew Thomas fourth overall in 2020. The Giants offensive line surrendered the most sacks of any club in the National Football League this season, despite having spent two first-round draft picks on offensive linemen in the previous few seasons.

The Giants’ squad and offense are coming off a poor season marred by injuries. Despite having one of the lowest pass block victory percentages in the National Football League at the end of the season, New York’s offensive line had a very difficult season.
Six out of the last seven seasons, the Giants offensive line has finished in the lower half of the league in that statistic, despite Thomas being one of the highest-ranking offensive lineman this season.

It wasn’t just Thomas and Neal to blame for New York’s offensive line woes. According to Thomas, having high draft picks doesn’t necessarily translate into success in the NFL right away or at all. According to Thomas, an offensive line’s performance is influenced by both their skill and their mutual familiarity. Thomas remarked, “I believe there are several ways to skin a cat.” “There are certain players in the league who were selected highly and excelled right away. My experience tells me that I didn’t then. Thus, you can never be sure if you will be drafted highly or not.”
“There will be veterans who sign incredibly good deals, but they might not fit in with that group as well. It is more important, in my opinion, to maintain the offensive line’s continuity. The way we’re all thinking and acting as a single unit while playing.”
