Mohammed Diomande, a target for Rangers, has received praise from FC Nordsjaelland manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, who called

him “one of the best midfielders” in the Danish Superliga.

After Fabio Silva’s arrival on loan from Premier League side Wolves, the Ivorian playmaker is allegedly close to joining Philippe

Clement as his second January transfer window acquisition. The Ibrox team has reportedly agreed on a price with Nordsjaelland for

the 22-year-old. He is anticipated to return early to Europe from his mid-season training camp in the USA in order to finalize a move

before the deadline of next week, according to Danish media BT.

Despite having a respectable goal scoring record in the past, Diomande hasn’t scored for his team since May, despite making 20

appearances for the Tigers this season. As both Ryan Jack and John Lundstram’s contracts expire at the end of the current campaign,

the youthful player would provide Clement more choices in the midfield and become the Belgian’s first permanent addition.

And when asked about the Diomande’s lack of goals this season, Nordsjaelland boss Thorup jumped to the player’s defense last month.

He thinks the Ivory Coast Under-23 star is already one of the best players in his position in the Danish top division.

Speaking in December, Thorup said: “Let’s look at the numbers on the number of defensive tackles he makes instead of discussing his

scoring stats. After then, it would become a happy tale.

“Hey, Mohammed is among Denmark’s top midfield players. I hope that most people

can see how wonderful he has been for us this season.

Who is Mohamed Diomande?

Diomande was born in Abidjan on October 30, 2001 and grew up in Wassakara in the Yopougon suburb of the Ivorian capital. He

began his youth career in the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana – a successful youth system for African prodigies that has produced

stars including West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus and AZ Alkmaar winger Ibrahim Sadiq.

Diomande made his Nordsjaelland central midfield debut against AC Horsens in February 2020. Since then, he has made 111

appearances for the team, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists. Flemming Pedersen, his former head coach, had called him a

“good dribbler” and “physically strong” player who would eventually become “one of our most important players”

after he had adapted to the football style.
