Celtic hero Scott Brown ‘favourite’ for SPFL job
This is according to McBookie, who state that the 38-year-old is still in
the running for the spot after a spike in betting caused him to tumble from 3/1 to 4/6.
Following a string of disappointing performances that saw Somerset Park drop to second place in
the Scottish Championship, Lee Mullen was fired as the team’s manager.
Since being dismissed of his responsibilities at English League One team
Fleetwood Town in September, Brown has not had a job.
Furthermore, Darren Young, Gary Bowyer, Charlie Mulgrew,
and others are not as highly regarded as he is for the Ayr position.
In the meantime, Queen’s Park has welcomed Anton McElhone,
the former head of sports science at Celtic, as their new head of academy.
Under former manager Ange Postecoglou, the 42-year-old signed with
the Scottish champions in the summer of 2021 and left the team in June of last year.
McElhone has also held a number of different positions during stints at Bradford,
Morton, and Tottenham.
“I am delighted to bring Anton into our academy as soon as I knew
I was taking on the role of academy director,” said Tommy McIntyre, the club’s head of academy.
“That he agreed to do that pleases me, as having him on board is somewhat of a coup for Queen’s Park.
“Having worked with some of the best players in the world,
including Harry Kane at the under-15 level,
he has extensive experience in the philosophy, methodology,
periodization, and player development processes.”
“We welcome Anton back to the club and we know that his wealth of experience and knowledge will be a great asset in helping us achieve our goal of producing more young players capable of playing regularly for our first team,” said Graeme Shields, president of Queen’s Park.
“Anton has also worked on development with some of the world’s best managers and coaches,
including Mauricio Pochettino, John Collins, Andre Villas Boas, Brad Friedel, and Ange Postecoglou.
Additionally, he has collaborated with the esteemed John McDermott,
who served as his academy director at Tottenham Hotspur before taking on
the role of FA technical director, and Alex Inglethorpe, the academy director of Liverpool FC.”
“He will greatly benefit The Queen’s Park Academy.”
