Michael Stewart tips Rangers to complete expensive signing, he’s ‘better’ than Ibrox ace

Michael Stewart claims he has “no doubt” that Lawrence Shankland is superior to

Cyriel Dessers and predicts Rangers will make a play for the striker.

The Ibrox club has been extensively linked with a bid for the Hearts striker,

but no deal has been completed as the 28-year-old is in negotiations with his present club about a new contract.

However, speaking live on Viaplay Sports (20 January) prior of Rangers’ cup win over Dumbarton,

Stewart stated that he would be surprised if the Ibrox club did not plan to sign Shankland this month.

“I believe we’ve seen enough so far to suggest that reinforcements are required there,

and there’s clearly a lot of conjecture about a certain number nine (Shankland) along the M8 at Hearts,” he said.

“I think we’ve seen enough so far to suggest that the reinforcements need to be had there and there’s

obviously a lot of speculation about a certain number nine (Shankland) along the M8 at Hearts,” he went on to say.

“I have no doubt that Lawrence Shankland is a superior striker than Cyriel Dessers.

“I believe he has the potential to advance, but Hearts will not want to lose him.

“He’s going to cost a fair bit of money but Rangers,

I would be very surprised if they weren’t looking at someone like Lawrence Shankland.”

Harsh

Shankland is very much the flavor of the month right now in Scotland,

and even in Glasgow among the fans and media, but there’s no certainty that  he is the answer to the goal issues.

Dessers has struggled this season, but his dedication to the badge is undeniable,

and he always gives his all, even if he lacks skill in front of goal.

However, the club is not in a financial position to simply splash the cash,

and after spending roughly £15 million on Dessers, Sam Lammers,

and Danilo this summer, it will be difficult to go again.

Shankland is 28 years old and has never been productive,

with the majority of his goals coming from the penalty spot in the past –

something he would not get here with James Tavernier around.

Is Shankland an enhancement over Dessers? Yes.

Does that imply he is unquestionably the answer and we should go big  on him Definitely not.?
