Matt LaFleur Is Totally Honest About How Much The Green Bay Packers’ Loss To
The San Francisco 49ers Affected Him
After the Packers’ devastating divisional round loss to the San Francisco 49ers in
the 2024 NFL Playoffs, head coach Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers
showed no signs of holding back.
The score was 21-14 going into the fourth quarter, and the Packers were
very close to pulling off another upset.
Sadly, the team crumbled in the end as the 49ers ended Green Bay’s incredible
postseason run with 10 straight points, highlighted by a rushing touchdown
by Christian McCaffrey with more than a minute remaining in the game.
After their 24-21 loss, LaFleur spoke to media after the game and said that
they were disappointed because they had great expectations for the game.
The Packers were confident after defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the
Wild Card Round, despite the fact that the deck was stacked against them.
The Packers, who had won four games in a row, including three straight to close
off the regular season, thought they had a chance.
They most definitely played like it, dominating the game for the opening three quarters.
However, the 49ers demonstrated why they were the favorites to win the game,
and the Packers’ inexperience finally showed.
“Part of the reason it stings so bad is we fully believed and fully expected to win.
Felt like we had plenty of opportunities to put the game out of reach and unfortunately
didn’t do enough,” LaFleur said of the loss, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
Matt LaFleur expressed his hope that the Green Bay Packers are just getting
started and that there will be more good things in the future despite the heartbreaking loss.
He did, however, acknowledge that “nothing is guaranteed” in the NFL,
so players must continue to work hard and develop despite the team’s standing
or any changes they may face.
