“He has a lot of talent” – St. Mirren Manager Reacts To Kwon’s Debut
Kwon Hyeok-kyu, a Celtic loanee, made his Scottish football debut on Saturday afternoon. In fact, the South Korean midfielder played the entire ninety minutes of St. Mirren’s Scottish Cup victory versus Queen of the South, which ended in a 1-0 victory.
In the engine room, the 22-year-old was noticeable to the Buddies. He never made a mistake and maintained his composure while
being tough. The BBC even awarded him Man of the Match for his performance.
Many Celtic fans were taken aback by Kwon’s performance, especially because he hasn’t made his senior debut yet. The towering
midfielder, who was brought in from the South Korean second division’s Busan I’Park last summer, only made one friendly
appearance for the Hoops’ first squad before being shipped to Paisley.
Kwon’s experience at the SMISA Stadium has been positive thus far. Manager Stephen Robinson expressed his satisfaction with
Kwon’s debut on Saturday, despite the fact that there is still more to be done. “I was surprised he (Kwon) was able to play the whole
game but he showed in glimpses that he has a lot of talent,” Robinson said (Football Scotland).
He and Caolan Boyd-Munce controlled the entire contest. I had assumed that Kwon would play for an hour, but he was essentially
running the game.
