Galatasaray transfer ‘definitely’ to happen as Rangers star Ridvan Yilmaz update emerges from Turkey

Galatasaray “definitely” intends to sign a left-back, and their top target is Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz.

Journalist Yakup Cinar made this claim while discussing the possible relocation on TGRT Haber on Saturday, January 20.

The 22-year-old Turkey international has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season for the Scottish outfit.

On the move?

Nothing is certain in the transfer window, but it does seem likely that Yilmaz will make a switch to Galatasaray this month.

Whether that is on a temporary or permanent deal remains to be seen, but it is clear that the left-back needs more playing time.

He has been given regular game time by Philippe Clement lately, but that has been down to the absence of number one left-back Borna Barisic.

The Croatian is, however, one of a handful of players who will be out of contract at the end of the season, meaning a left-back spot could open up

for Yilmaz.

But the latter perhaps has aims of making the Turkey squad for Euro 2024, and will therefore be keen to get a move this month in order to play as

much club football as possible. And more minutes are likely to arrive at Galatasaray as opposed to Ibrox.

But with Rangers competing in the league, Scottish Cup and Europa League, losing a valuable player like Yilmaz is not likely to sit well with Clement.

The manager might struggle to keep the player happy, but for the time being he needs as big a squad as possible, especially with injuries creeping in.
