Aston Villa will have a busy month in January, primarily off the field.

In order to secure their spot in Europe, Unai Emery is eager to bolster his

team during the transfer window.

This past weekend, Fabrizio Romano gave updates on Aston Villa’s pursuit

of Middlesbrough star Morgan Rogers on X, the defunct Twitter platform.

Emery is reportedly focused on signing the young forward, and he will try to

do it this month. Given how hungry the Middlesbrough player is to join the

Premier League team, a transfer is probably coming.

Speaking about the situation this weekend, Boro boss Michael Carrick stated:

“Not really [much I can tell you]. It’s just that time of year where there is plenty

of rumours and speculation. From my point of view, watching Morgan today,

he played well. There is nothing to say really on that one.

Tuesday is the big day, and we want him to be here. It is, in my opinion,

pure conjecture. I don’t get involved in football because I don’t see anything

surprising in it. Only the players that are available to us intrigue me.

Today, I selected a team to attempt to win the game,

but we were unable to come through.”

Watkins was a former Brentford striker, and the Villans supporters could

only have imagined what the £28 million acquisition from 2020 would become.
With 57 goals in 145 games, the 27-year-old has undoubtedly been Villa’s

most reliable player since his arrival.

The Englishman’s 14 goals and eight assists in 27 appearances this season

in all competitions show how much he has improved since Emery was promoted.
Rogers, a striker who would follow the strikers’ example by moving up to

the top division from the Championship, might be signed by Emery as Watkins 2.0.

After joining Middlesbrough in the summer, the former Manchester City

player has significantly improved under Carrick; his manager calls him a “huge talent.”

Despite only having two league goals, the 21-year-old has established himself

as an essential member of his team. The table below highlights some of Rogers’ Championship season statistics, which demonstrate why Villa should sign him.
