Rangers v Dumbarton – team news confirmed, Silva and Butland benched

In the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, Rangers will travel a short distance to play Dumbarton, as Philippe Clement begins to get more players back.

Although the forward line is still an issue, the manager of the Gers has added Fabio Silva, who will play for the team in its first

competitive match away from Ibrox.

With a huge game against a depleted Hibernian on Tuesday, Rangers could be forgiven

for having one eye on Easter Road,

however, Philippe Clement has still picked a strong XI from his squad to face Dumbarton.

Rangers v Dumbarton – team news confirmed

For once, Jack Butland has a free afternoon while Robbie McCrorie prepares to face the wind.

Due to suspension, Connor Goldson will be conspicuously absent against Hibs, leaving two senior alternatives for the journey to Edinburgh.

There shouldn’t be any concerns about Leon Balogun and John Souttar starting together again because they have previously played

together and against Hertha Berlin.

However, Goldson probably doesn’t benefit from being absent for an entire week.

The manager appears to have more alternatives in the midfield, where he can start strong and then rotate with Todd Cantwell in front of John Lundstram and Nicolas Raskin.

But now that Tom Lawrence is back to full fitness, the latter will need to regain his form.

Rangers’ front-line options are Cyriel Dessers or Fabio Silva, and Clement may be considering the latter for the middle of the week.

It says volumes about how highly he thinks of Silva that he publicly acknowledged in the pre-match press conference that he wanted to sign him on a permanent basis.

Dessers could do with a goal or two.

Rabbi Matondo has looked sharp in the two friendlies, as has Ross McCausland, hopefully the flying pair can provide the chances to

see us comfortably through to the next round.

This is who Clement has gone with in his introduction to the Scottish Cup as Rangers take on Dumbarton:
