Given that Sunderland supporters had already begun to turn against Michael Beale, Rangers made the right decision in firing him.

After being fired from his position at Ibrox on October 1st, the former manager of the Green Bay Packers was named the next manager

of the English Championship team on December 18th, with a contract that ran through 2026.

After he was subjected to his fourth defeat in just seven games since taking over at the Stadium

Hull City on Friday (19 January), Simon Bird noted how the Black Cats’ fans turned against him.

The Daily Mail reporter said on Twitter that after Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho’s goal gave the Tigers all three points, the

supporters could be heard chanting “We want Beale out..” and “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

Even though Sunderland is still in ninth place and is only two points out of the playoffs,

their performances and results under Beale seem to trend in one direction.

One of those four losses was a humiliating 3-0 setback in the FA Cup third round on January 6 against bitter

rivals Newcastle United, where his team hardly gave a fight at home.

That shows why Rangers were absolutely right to sack Beale just a few months into the new season

as the results simply weren’t good

enough and the club were going backwards.

Just like he’s already shown in small glimpses during his time back in England,

he struggled to get his side to perform on the big stage at Ibrox.

The Gers were embarrassed in Eindhoven by PSV in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League in August, while they served up a

gutless display in the first Old Firm clash of this campaign.

After the Light Blues lost 3-1 at home to Aberdeen, their third loss in as many SPFL games, his tenure in Glasgow came to an end.

Since then, though, they haven’t looked back under new manager Philippe Clement, with the lone blemish on his incredible record

being the 2-1 loss to Celtic on December 30.

Under Beale, it would have been extremely unlikely that the Belgian would have vaulted Rangers back into the title fight, won the

Viaplay Cup, and guaranteed their spot in the Europa League final stages.

He’s also managed to get a tune out of a number of the summer signings the Englishman brought through the door,

even if doubts remain over some of their long-term credentials at Ibrox.

On the whole, the Gers are in much safer hands now than they ever were during Beale’s time at the club.

There’s only one man that’s potentially staring down the barrel of another sacking and it’s not Clement.
