There has been skepticism towards the New Orleans Saints choice to stick with their head coach.

mostly because it perfectly encapsulates the Saints’ issues.

Whether you like it or not, Dennis Allen will continue leading the New Orleans Saints as head coach.

Based on the extent to which General Manager Mickey Loomis and the front office are prepared to go to protect Allen,

it appears that they like it. Fans of the Saints don’t seem to enjoy it. It’s also understandable why they’re upset, as this choice exemplifies the main

problem with the franchise. Not that Allen isn’t a capable coach. Actually, it’s a long way away.

He is an excellent defensive coach in particular. He might not be THE coach, particularly with this team.

To put it simply, the Saints should have moved on from the Sean Payton and Drew Brees era long ago.

Yes, it was the best and most successful in the history of the franchise, but it’s ended.

From an organizational standpoint, the move to elevate then-defensive coordinator Allen to head coach made sense after Brees’

retirement and Payton’s well-timed departure. The squad wanted to see if they could maintain their momentum into the new age,

and Allen performed admirably in the role. Put another way, they were struggling to let go and were trying to hang on to as much

success as they could. Better spoken than done. To their detriment, the Saints’ decision to effectively double down and continue with Allen is

indicative of the way this team runs. Even though the course isn’t exactly in calm waters, they are unwilling to go into full rebuild mode and instead

attempt to make small changes here and there in an attempt to stay the course. It resembles applying a bandage to a deep cut.

Here’s yet another outstanding illustration. The Saints have only ever selected a quarterback in the first round, did you know that?

ONE TIME only. The young quarterback was Manning—that is, Archie Manning. 1971. Therefore, if the franchise truly wants to start anew,

that might be a good place to start. Naturally, the next step would be to hire a head coach with an offensive philosophy.

Don’t hold your breath, though, as Allen is sticking around while Pete Carmichael was stripped of his offensive coordinator responsibilities.

Once more, this is not implying that Derek Carr is a poor quarterback or even that Dennis Allen is a lousy coach. Actually, rather the opposite.

But what this really means is that in order to return to their heyday without desperately attempting to hold on to the past,

the New Orleans Saints must rebuild—something they are allergic to doing.

Although it is somewhat unfortunate that 2024 appears to be nearly identical to 2024 already, anything can happen.
