Commanders Free Agency: 4 Targets to Sign From Wild Card Playoffs

Along with the majority of us, the Washington Commanders watched in disbelief as

the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers progressed to the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs on Sunday,

while the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams were eliminated.

We’re looking at all four teams and one player the Commanders could target in free agency this offseason,

just like we did for the slate of games on Saturday.

 

 

These are four players whose contracts are about to expire whom Washington may try to sign this offseason.

GREEN BAY PACKERS: SAFETY AND DARNELL SAVAGE

Savage was a part of the Maryland Terrapins football program while attending college in the area.

Savage, who entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2019 draft,

has started 10 or more games in each of his five seasons, yet he has never been selected to the Pro Bowl.

Savage made a crucial interception on Sunday against Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott,

which he then scored on in the end.

Despite the fact that the play began before halftime, many saw it as the final nail in the coffin.

DALLAS COWBOYS: TONY POLLARD, RUNNING BACK

While some fans of the Cowboys will never be okay with a player on this squad joining the Commanders,

there are just as many who would be horrified to see Pollard go over into the opposing team.

NFL clubs can no longer depend on a single running back to handle the entire workload,

so Pollard should aim to join with a different ball-carrier in free agency who can enhance his own skills.

Many people who watched Washington this season believed that Brian Robinson Jr. should play more,

but not so much that he is run into the ground.

As a complement to Robinson Jr., Pollard is another Memphis Tigers product that

the Commanders might use if Antonio Gibson is not brought back.

DETROIT LIONS: CRAIG REYNOLDS, RUNNING BACK

Because of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, Reynolds is one of the less well-known players on

the Lions roster. He began his NFL career with Washington but has since moved on to play for other teams.

Returning to the team might be necessary as the Commanders’ new coaching staff works to assemble a backfield

that can support what many anticipate to be a rookie starting at quarterback in 2024.

LOS ANGELES RAMS: CORNERBACK, AHKELLO WITHERSPOON

Witherspoon is a guy worth taking into consideration this offseason if Washington continues to play a zone-heavy defensive system under its new coaching staff.

He’s been with the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and now the Rams,

but he’s been stable in his most recent position thus far.

With three interceptions this season, he tied his career high and received a 73.7 coverage rating from Pro Football Focus.
