Scottish football returns via the cup, and Kris Boyd has predicted the outcomes of Rangers vs. Dumbarton and Celtic vs. Buckie Thistle.

While he does see some upsets occurring, the Sky Sports pundit told the Scottish Sun on January 19 that he still thinks the two Old

Firm teams will easily advance to the next round.

He said that Philippe Clement has tasted silverware once as Rangers manager and would be looking to do it again in the Scottish Cup.

“Do I see any shocks?” Boyd said. Maybe, but I think most of the nine Premiership teams that play lower-league opponents will handle them.

“The Highland League team is excited about Celtic’s matchup with Buckie Thistle, which has been expertly covered in these SunSport

pages over the past few weeks.”A greater build-up was beyond the wildest dreams of Graeme Stewart’s team. However, they are

playing Brendan Rodgers’ team in the cup final, so there is no possibility of an upset.

“Rangers at Dumbarton should also be straightforward. Philippe Clement has tasted one final already this season and lifted a trophy, it’s fair to say he’ll be looking to do the same again.”

Rangers should have little trouble defeating Dumbarton in their next game, especially considering their head-to-head record—they

have won all nine of their previous meetings with the team.

It is clear that the two teams are performing very differently, which heightens the expectation that the visitors will win.

Moreover, Dumbarton’s recent form and performance statistics do not bode well for them.

The hosts have struggled, with six of their last seven games witnessing goals at both ends, indicating defensive vulnerabilities.

In contrast, Rangers have been in excellent form, winning eight of their last nine games across all competitions.

Rangers will probably go into this game with a strong and focused mindset given their recent victory in the Scottish League Cup final and their chance to win additional hardware.

Although Rangers may be tempted to rest important players, it is imperative that they resist complacency. Philippe Clement will also

monitor the mindset of those players who are associated with the exit door.
