Abdallah Sima Rangers injury alert as Senegal boss confirms hip concern
Abdallah Sima, a star for the Rangers, hurt his hip during the African Cup of Nations.
Since joining on a season-long loan from Brighton, the winger has been a revelation at Ibrox, scoring 15 goals for the Light Blues so
far. But because he’s playing for Senegal at the AFCON, Philippe Clement cannot now use the 22-year-old. Despite his country winning
their first two games and qualifying for the next round, his tournament hasn’t quite gone as planned.
Sima has yet to kick a ball in the competition after being left as an unused sub against Gambia, while he was left out of the matchday
squad against Cameroon. And international boss Aliou Cisse has explained the attacker’s lack of game time is due to an injury.
“Abdallah Sima was unavailable due to some hip adductor muscle discomfort,” the speaker stated. In the next days, his condition will be evaluated.”
Senegal’s qualifying means Sima will definitely miss Rangers’ encounter with St Mirren next week and he might possibly be away for
subsequent home fixtures against Livingston and Aberdeen if his team reaches the final in Abidjan on February 11.
Ibrox boss Clement will have his fingers crossed that Sima’s knock isn’t too serious having already lost
several key players to injury since taking over the hotseat in October.
