Abdallah Sima in Rangers injury scare as Senegal boss reveals reason for AFCON absence
Senegal will evaluate Abdallah Sima, who sustained a hip injury at the African Cup of Nations.
Sima has 10 goals in the league this season for Philippe Clement’s team, tying James Tavernier as the team’s joint highest scorer.
The Brighton loanee is someone the Gers are eager to sign permanently, but they are aware that he will probably want a high transfer fee.
Even though Senegal won their first two games and advanced to the next round, Sima’s international service in the
Ivory Coast for the tournament has not gone as planned.
Sima did not even make the squad for the match against Cameroon and was not used as a substitute against the Gambia. Sima’s ailment has been confirmed
by manager Aliou Cisse, who also explains why he was seated in the stands. Cisse gave the following explanation: “Abdallah Sima was not accessible due to
some discomfort in his hip adductor muscles. In the next days, his condition will be evaluated.”
Senegal’s win means that Sima will definitely extend his stay at the competition. They need only a point against Guinea on Tuesday to win the group which
would mean they face a Round of 16 clash on January 29 in Yamoussoukro.
That implies that if Senegal advances to the final in Abidjan on February 11, he will undoubtedly miss Rangers’ game at St. Mirren the following week and
may even miss additional home games against Livingston and Aberdeen. After playing a significant role in the first half of the season, Rangers will be
hopeful that his injury is not too serious.
