WWE should be commended for some of the side plots

that have been simmering away while they prepare for Royal Rumble.

By making AJ Styles vs. LA Knight seem like Peter Griffin vs. that

f’n chicken guy and Nick Aldis oppose “Wise Man” Paul Heyman,

Triple H’s creative staff is building the groundwork for SmackDown’s future.

It’s all very positive.

To get a sense of the success of this week’s blue brand campaign, all you need to do is peek at the ‘Ups’ count.

WWE spent two hours perfecting every area of the business save for the Women’s Tag-Team Title category.

That is still a complete mess, regrettably. Raise your hands if you’ve given up on those belts!

There is a lot to admire about SmackDown right now, midcarders were repackaged (or re-repackaged),

and a revitalized and redesigned group is gradually becoming a force to be reckoned with

(probably not the one you’re thinking of!). The presence of two AWOL champions,

Roman Reigns and Logan Paul, didn’t hurt either. This is a summary of Smackers’

penultimate stop prior to the Rumble, both good and bad.

This is bad, all right.

In Atlanta, there was nearly no response when Kayden Carter and Katana Chance arrived. That’s hardly a happy statement,

but it does highlight how little attention WWE has given to these women overall.

It was never going to take one or two little partying anecdotes to establish them as likable figures.

Thus, they enjoy going out and having fun. What more is there? I mean,

why should fans care about Carter and Chance as people who happen to possess the Women’s Tag Titles?

Their portrayal is about as thin as you’re going to find in professional wrestling,

and the champions are by no means the only ones who struggle with it.

Creative then delivered a match that completely failed to pique people’s interest, building on their own indifferent hype.

Think twice before wishing for Tony Khan to initiate a women’s tag scene in AEW. It’s now an unpleasant feature of WWE shows.
