49ers make a roster change following Clelin Ferrell’s IR placement.
Following the loss of an important member of their defense, the San Francisco 49ers are making a roster change. According to NFL Network, the team is activating safety George Odum from injured reserve. After placing defensive tackle Clelin Ferrell on injured reserve and losing him for the remainder of the season, the team promoted Odum.
With Ferrell sidelined due to a knee injury, the 49ers are dealt a serious blow. The squad will go to the NFC Championship game if it wins its matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. Ferrell finishes his first campaign with the 49ers with 28 tackles in all, including 15 unassisted stops. In addition, he noted 3.5 sacks. After playing with the Raiders in both Oakland and Las Vegas for four seasons, he joined the team prior to the 2023 campaign. This season, he had the most tackles since his debut year in 2019.
Due to a torn bicep, Odum has not played since Week 12. In 11 49ers games this season, he racked up 12 tackles. After spending the 2018–2021 season with the Indianapolis Colts, he is currently in his second season with San Francisco. Odum has 132 tackles in his career, which is a lot of experience.
Odum will probably be necessary for the 49ers to contain the explosive Packers offense. The previous week, the Packers crushed the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 in the NFC Wild Card game. Jordan Love, the quarterback for the Packers, shredded the Cowboys defense, completing passes for 272 yards and three scores.
