Lions vs. Bucs preview: Jared Goff’s success vs. Todd Bowles could be key Pride of Detroit
One of the most renowned defensive coordinators in football is Todd Bowles.
He is an aggressive play-caller with the ability to devise extremely successful team-specific game plans.
Last week, just ask the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, quarterback Jared Goff was extremely successful in
the Detroit Lions’ previous meeting with Bowles’ Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Goff completed 30-of-44 throws for 353 yards and two touchdowns,
marking one of his most productive days despite the Bucs shutting down his run game.
“Goff has faced Todd Bowles numerous times in his career and has always been successful.
In our podcast previewing the Lions vs. Buccaneers,
NFL expert Jon Ledyard said, “I don’t know if Lions fans necessarily recognise that.
” “He performed admirably against Bowles while he was a member of the Rams.”
The fact that Goff has performed well this season against blitzes is one of the things
that makes him especially difficult for Bowles to handle.
Goff completed 10-of-19 throws against the blitz for 171 yards and two scores in their Week 6 encounter.
Being one of the NFL’s most aggressive blitzing teams is in Bowles’ DNA,
but it might not work this week.
The Los Angeles Rams, of course, discovered the hard way that not applying enough pressure to Goff is not an option either
Ledyard breaks over the entire game for us, covering everything from Baker Mayfield’s opportunities to exploit this Lions secondary to the reasons why Jahmyr Gibbs might breathe new life into the Lions running attack this time around against a formidable Buccaneers run defence.
The full episode can be heard below. If you agree with Ledyard’s analysis,
