Director dismisses move for Celtic outcast – Brendan Rodgers will need new solution to get rid of player
Talk of Lecce showing interest in Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke, who is on the fringe of Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Parkhead,
has been abundant over the last few weeks.
The center-back was signed in the summer, but he hasn’t played much for his new team, which is why there was talk in January that
he would leave, if only temporarily.
Lecce, however, were always said to be struggling to meet the finances for any deal Celtic would approve, and now we see their
technical director, Pantaleo Corvino, hinting that a move for Lagerbielke will not take place, as relayed by Gazzetta dello Sport.
The newspaper cover what Lecce will do between now and the end of the transfer window,
and quickly move onto the defence.
There, they explain that Corvino has ‘admitted that he is not looking for other central defenders’,
which has come as a bit of a surprise before of the recent ‘talk of interest’ in the Celtic defender.
“We have dependable players like Pongracić and Baschirotto who deserve to start,” the director declared. Next up comes Touba, a
participant in the Africa Cup of Nations. Additionally, we may rely on Blin to fill that position, and a young player from 2005 named
Sebastian Esposito may enter from the Primavera.
Thus, it would seem that if Brendan Rodgers truly wants to get rid of Lagerbielke, he will need to come up with another plan other than thinneing down his defense.
