Aston Villa spark Man City interest in January transfer window
Although Manchester City is experiencing a quiet January transfer window, Aston Villa’s actions may involve the Blues.
Aston Villa’s January transfer window efforts may include some unanticipated Manchester City involvement.
After an incredible season that included victories over City and Arsenal in the same week, Unai Emery’s team has been one of the
Premier League’s surprise surprises. They currently sit third in the standings, level on points with City and two points ahead of
Liverpool despite having played one extra game. The Midlands club hopes to defeat the Blues for the first time since 1963 when they
visit the Etihad at the start of April.
In an effort to maintain their momentum in the season, Villa is looking to bolster during the January transfer window, and Emery hasmade Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers a top priority. According to reports, an offer for the 21-year-old, who has performed well
for Michael Carrick’s team in the Championship this season, has already been turned down.
Rogers, a 17-year-old from West Brom, was signed by City in 2019 for a reported £4 million, however he never played for the first
team. After making an impression while on loan in League One at Lincoln, the young player struggled to break into Bournemouth’s
squad, which was vying for promotion back to the Championship in 2021. He was then sold at a loss in a seven-figure deal to
Middlesbrough last summer.
Even though City lost money on the transfer fee, they added a high sell-on fee to safeguard themselves in case Rogers became
successful at his new team. If Villa is able to sign Rogers from Boro, they may receive a small bonus this month. In addition, City will
receive money if Kalvin Phillips moves on loan for the remainder of the season. The England international is being pursued by several
Premier League teams this month in an attempt to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros, but the Blues are not
planning to let him go for nothing.
