Skip Bayless: Dallas Cowboys can’t ‘win a Super Bowl under Jerry Jones at age 81’

Skip Bayless appears to believe that Jerry Jones’s time is running out as he fights against his own mortality to win the Dallas Cowboys another Super Bowl.

When Jones revealed on Wednesday night that Mike McCarthy will rejoin the Cowboys as head coach for the 2024 campaign, it sent shockwaves around the NFL.

Jones decided to rely on McCarthy’s performance during the regular season,

even though the coach had led the team to three consecutive dramatic postseason collapses.

Many members of the sports media questioned Jones’ choice, chief among them being Bayless,

a self-described ardent Cowboys supporter.

On his FS1 programme Undisputed on Thursday morning, Bayless voiced his disapproval of the ruling,

asserting that the Cowboys are no longer capable of winning a Super Bowl under Jones.

“Under Jerry Jones, at the age of 81, they got no chance to win a Super Bowl,” stated Bayless.

“Because he just conveyed the idea that what was unacceptable was totally OK.”

Although it didn’t seem like the 72-year-old Bayless was directly criticising the owner’s age for the Cowboys’ lack of a chance to win another Super Bowl,

he was undoubtedly criticising the owner for continuing to work with McCarthy as his time is running out.

“With Jones and McCarthy leading the Cowboys, there’s no urgency in that locker room,

no good fear factor, nobody’s walking on eggshells,” Bayless went on.

Jones has frequently stated that he was inspired to end the Cowboys’ dwindling Super Bowl drought by his own mortality.

Wide receiver KaVontae Turpin stated that Jones “talked about how he doesn’t have too many years left in

this business” even after the owner addressed the Cowboys this week.

Although Jones’ age may not be the Cowboys’ issue, let’s not making things too complicated. Age be damned,

Jones is the Cowboys’ biggest concern. Overly involved ownership of a professional sports team is usually a surefire formula for failure,

and during Jones’ time in Dallas, he has elevated that involvement to a new degree.
