McCarthy details meetings with Jerry, Dak after loss

Following the Green Bay Packers’ playoff loss on Sunday afternoon,

head coach Mike McCarthy has been in meetings all week.

On Wednesday, he met with owner and general manager Jerry Jones to discuss the 2023 season’s conclusion and

the anticipated significant changes that will occur in the offseason.

The disappointment of the season’s conclusion as well as the future with Jones were among

the subjects covered in McCarthy’s discussion with Jones, which he claimed lasted more than three hours.

“We completed the entire course,” McCarthy remarked.

“Reviewed the things we thought might have contributed.

We explored every layer of the disappointment component, which had many layers.

We then discussed the coaches, players, and other related topics. Business-related matters.

It was an extended, fruitful talk.”

The two had the opportunity to speak one-on-one at The Star,

where they challenged one another about the coaching and roster makeup of the team going forward,

particularly in light of the numerous free agents and Dan Quinn’s future as

defensive coordinator that remain up in the air.

“The best meetings I have with Jerry is one-on-one,” he stated.

“They work so hard. Although he’s a fantastic boss, he’s an even better leader.

I enjoy and value that he asks all the tough,

direct questions because it leads to thoughtful discussions that take many turns.”

We discuss everything, including what is good, wrong, and neutral. what we must base our efforts on.

I’m not sure how many things that are relevant to the football operation we didn’t discuss.

It’s a difficult talk to have.”

In order to complete his exit interviews, McCarthy first met with the veterans on Monday,

followed by the mid-year players, and finally the rookies on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“They’re amazing men because the thing is – and it always blows me away – is just how strong they are,”

he said. “With just the disappointment and your emotion and the ability to express and

I think part of that too is everyday is different.

Every time I do it, it’s a grind. It’s so productive,

but there’s a lot of strength and confirmation that comes from those conversations and I applaud our men for that.”

One of his first conversations was with Dak Prescott,

who naturally had a longer conversation with McCarthy than most players.

The two are used to meeting on Thursday nights throughout the season for at least a couple of hours,

but this time things were different with the 2023 season done and an uncertain future lying ahead.

Regarding the discussion, McCarthy stated, “It was productive.”

We seemed to have discussed a wide range of topics. The main issue, in my opinion,

is that Dak and I spend so much time together that we don’t really need to have lengthy conversations.

It’s more like carrying on a discussion about various subjects.”

With Dak Prescott at his side, McCarthy is even more certain that he can fulfil his goals in Dallas as a result of the conversation.

McCarthy is optimistic that the two may accomplish their goal of being the greatest Cowboys ever,

despite the fact that they have only expressed self-admitted dissatisfaction in the playoffs.

“I have unbelievable belief in Dak,” he stated. “I believe he still has a step to go. He’s fit right in with this offence.

The system is designed to make the quarterback successful,

which is one of the areas we were able to improve on.

We’re eagerly anticipating the growth opportunity in the future. It is an exciting development for us.”
