Pascal Jansen was considered by Celtic to succeed Ange Postecoglou, but AZ Alkmaar fired him, hence he is currently unemployed.

Ange Postecoglou’s departure from Celtic over the summer dealt them the blow they were presumably expecting.

After joining Celtic from Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan in 2021, the Australian was all but ridiculed.

When Postecoglou concluded his career at Parkhead and won two league titles, the jokes were no longer being laughed at.

After leaving for Tottenham, Postecoglou moved on, and although Celtic sought to replace him

with Brendan Rodgers, one of their objectives is currently unemployed.

Pascal Jansen loses AZ Alkmaar job after Celtic interest

According to reports from earlier in the summer, Celtic was considering hiring Pascal Jansen, the leader of AZ Alkmaar.

Although Jansen appeared to be a desirable contender, Rodgers ultimately secured the position.

The London-born coach led AZ to a fourth-place result in the Eredivisie the previous season and to the Europa Conference League

semifinals, where they were defeated by eventual winners West Ham United.

Jansen appeared to be a very promising coach, but this season hasn’t gone well for him.

Jansen dropped just four points in the first 10 games of the season, enjoying a superb start to the campaign.

But since then, AZ’s form has been inconsistent, losing four out of seven games and earning seven points out of a potential twenty-one.

AZ’s miserable Europa Conference League campaign didn’t help either; they finished the group stage with a 4–6 record loss.

Now, AZ has taken the necessary action, declaring on Wednesday that Jansen has been fired and his tenure as CEO is terminated.

Jansen leaves after 94 wins in 162 games, boasting an impressive 58% win rate.

We will surely see Jansen in another job soon enough; much of his AZ reign was very impressive and he will have attracted interest from elsewhere.

Maybe Celtic will keep tabs on him moving forward, but they will currently feel that going back to Rodgers was the right decision.
