Lawrence Shankland to Rangers update sees transfer journo reveal problem

After more than two weeks of transfer rumors linking Lawrence Shankland to Rangers, only Fabio Silva joined,

Rangers supporters are beginning to get a little agitated.

Although the captain of Hearts would be a nice addition to Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s team,

no formal bid has been made as of yet.

The situation is the same in other parts of the park, but according to Dean Jones, GiveMeSport, something has to give if the Rangers

want to bring Lawrence Shankland to his spiritual home of Ibrox.

There are two schools of thought regarding the 28-year old striker.

One. That he is capable of being the difference in the title race and every effort should be made to sign him. And.

Two. Rangers should be looking for better than Lawrence Shankland and longer term.

Both arguments are accurate and built on justifiable foundations.

Few players can promise goals, but Shankland would for Rangers in Scotland.

He doesn’t need five opportunities to score a goal, based on his performance in Edinburgh derbies and against Rangers and Celtic.

It is also true that the reported sum of more than £3 million is a significant sum of money for a domestic player who cannot be sold for

any profit, particularly if the player is getting close to the end of his contract—even if a new one has been offered.

Transfer journalist Jones, in an interview with GMS, offered this hypothesis as to why nothing has occurred:

“Let’s use Shankland as an example of a player Rangers are looking at. Undoubtedly,

there is a level of interest there, and they like him.

“But, speaking to contacts at Rangers, they say that the problem is that players have to go out.

“Dessers is a player that they’re open-minded about whether offers come in for him.

I think that will be key to those targets being landed.”

Rangers probably would prefer to invest the £4 million that was spent on Cyriel Dessers on Lawrence Shankland

if they were given the summer to start over.

It makes sense because it would be a one-in, one-out situation and because there wouldn’t be a better player to reallocate the money to

if Nils Koppen can secure a respectable price for Dessers.

Rangers supporters appear to agree that the title is still up for grabs if the proper investments are made

now and that now is not the time to settle for mediocrity.

Maybe by summertime it will be too late.
