Cowboys: Skip Bayless in despair after Mike McCarthy returns as head coach
Cowboys: Skip Bayless in despair after Mike McCarthy returns as head coach
Following the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 postseason collapse,
which included a 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Wild Card Round,
many believed it was time for the team to choose a new head coach.
Allowing quarterback Jordan Love to mash up the defence for a squad that experts thought had
the best defence might necessitate some drastic coaching changes in order to get
the most out of a great roster when the games matter most.
Unfortunately, McCarthy’s return to the Cowboys is a result of the team’s dismal postseason performance.
McCarthy may have led the Cowboys’ comeback since 2021,
but even on strong teams, a coaching change can be necessary to elevate a group to a new level.
However, the Cowboys are willing to run it back,
which has led to a strong and critical response from well-known analyst Skip Bayless.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Bayless wrote on his official Twitter (X) account.
That’s quite the reaction to Mike McCarthy’s choice to stay with the Cowboys.Given that Skip Bayless is a well-known Cowboys supporter,
his response only serves to highlight the frustration that club supporters
have felt over time over McCarthy’s style of leadership and
how it affects the team’s ability to compete in the postseason.
As a “x1000” Cowboys supporter, Bayless even went so far as to call the team’s defeat against the Packers his
“lowest moment.” After all, the club captained by Dak Prescott appeared to be the deeper,
more stacked squad on paper.
However, games are won on the pitch, not on paper,
and the Cowboys have failed to advance past the Divisional Round for three years running.
Ultimately, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys,
still believes that Mike McCarthy is qualified to manage the team and bring it to its first Super Bowl since 1995.
According to Jones, the group is “very close” to reaching their ultimate objective,
which is to be the last squad standing. His confidence may pay off in due course,
but Skip Bayless and the rest of the fan base are running out of patience.
