The Dallas Cowboys’ Sunday loss to the Green Bay Packers was not their only setback.

They were entirely surpassed by one of the youngest teams in history in every way.

The Cowboys embarrassed themselves in the process and became

the first club in NFL history to lose a playoff game to a Wild Card with a #7 seed.

There will undoubtedly be difficult questions in light of the stunning extent of the loss,

with the guy in command presumably at the top of the list.

After giving Mike McCarthy full control of the organisation prior to the 2020 campaign,

the Cowboys have enjoyed tremendous success in the regular season.

Since quarterback Dak Prescott (among others) sustained an injury that ended the first season,

the team has won 12 games annually and made it to the postseason each time.

However, throughout those three years, the Cowboys have only emerged victorious in one postseason game,

and they just suffered a crushing defeat at home.

They might be headed in the right direction,

but—stop me if you’ve heard this before—there is still a chance that a new captain could close the gap.

I have a history of supporting Mike McCarthy,

and when asked before the season if the team should let him go if they didn’t make it to the NFC Championship Game,

I consistently responded that the situation would depend on the specifics of the scenario.

No hypothetical exists. There is reality and embracing it brings us to the truth,

through the context we now have, that it is more than fair to consider making a change at head coach.

It would be a disservice to not raise the subject in an offseason when Bill Belichick,

Jim Harbaugh, and others are available. Perhaps Mike McCarthy has exhausted all options.
