A recent transfer update states that Rangers is in a three-way competition to capture a “absolutely brilliant” Premier League player.

Targets for Rangers transfers

During the January transfer window, Philippe Clement hopes to add some new players as it will be his first chance to sign players that fit his playing philosophy.

Before the end of the month, a number of players have been connected to Rangers, and the team is still very interested in Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland. Josh Doig,

a left-back for Hellas Verona who was previously with Hibernian,

is another player who is considered a potential addition.Should Clement feel the need to add more players to his defense, Everton’s Ben Godfrey has recently been tipped to move to Ibrox.

Michy Batshuayi is another name that has been thrown into the hat, but that one appears to have run into a wall.

Ben Johnson is what the Rangers desire.

Rangers are interested in signing Ben Johnson, a defender for West Ham, but they aren’t the only team interested in acquiring him, according to Football Insider.

“Sources close to Football Insider have revealed that teams interested in signing West Ham star Ben Johnson this month include Rangers, Leeds United, and Sheffield United.

The 23-year-old may leave the London Stadium on loan before the deadline of February 1st, and Southampton is reportedly among the teams in the running for his services.

“After finding it difficult to get into games for David Moyes’ club, Johnson is eager to play regular first-team football as he approaches the last six months of his West Ham contract.

He has turned down multiple offers from the Irons for a possible extension. It is claimed Johnson has loads of interest from clubs in England and north of the border –

with Rangers, Leeds, Sheffield United and Southampton the most eager on a transfer.”

Johnson, who played just twice in the Premier League this season—just once of which was a start—and fell nearly entirely out of favor under David Moyes at West Ham,

could seize the chance to join Rangers this month.

The Englishman, who is 23 years old, is at a pivotal time in his career and has the ability to play in midfield, at center back, or either full-back position.

He may provide quality and variety to the Gers’ defense. Paul Robinson, the former goalkeeper for England, has also praised Johnson in the past, stating:

“Johnson deserves to be in the team because of his merited performances.” That’s beyond a doubt in my mind.
