Rush was absent from the Cowboys‘ final two practices on Friday and Saturday, according to several reports. The Cowboys didn’t want the illness to spread to other starting players because it was either serious enough for him to miss important practice time or it was still contagious.

The Dallas Cowboys make a risky decision at QB

Rush is expected to be sidelined for the Cowboys’ game against the Packers as Dak Prescott’s backup, per Ed Werder of ESPN. Although Rush missed practice on Friday and Saturday due to an unexpected illness, head coach Mike McCarthy still believes in Rush more than former San Francisco 49ers first-round choice Trey Lance.

The Cowboys are hoping Rush won’t be necessary. That very well might occur, though, considering the volume of NFL quarterback injuries this season.
